Project Devin ( a partner of Abilities Network Project ACT)

Project Devin is currently seeking funding to support those military families in need.

The military has long recognized the tremendous need to ensure the wellbeing of all military families.  In doing so, military personnel are free to defend our country with the confidence that their loved ones have what they need.  Project Devin will add another dimension to the Exceptional Family Members Programs (EFMP), currently serving military families and their children with special needs.  With support from top military personnel, key members of congress, military families, installations throughout the region and the required funding, to propose to offer Abilities Network services to all military families in the military district of Maryland.

Services to be provided will include:

Assist families as they transition into new communities

    • Family profiles will identify needs and preferences prior to moving into new area
    • Housing, school, early intervention, child care, medical services,
      recommendations will be provided
    • Home visit made with family within 2 weeks of relocation

    Provide service coordination to families accessing respite care, early intervention, special education , or specialized health care services

  • Provision of applications and supports to accessing services

Advocate for and assist families in navigating complex service systems

  • Attending IEP/IFSP (Education and support plans) meetings in the school system
    • Ensuring child’s assessments take place within legal timeline
      • Assistance with HMO/medical issues

         

        Support children in their natural environments including child care, before and after care, and in the home

      • On-site technical assistance for service providers by professionals specially trained in supporting children with special needs
      • Provide training/in-service for schools, child care, recreation programs
        • Offer educational/support groups for families

        Abilities Network will collaborate with Family Support Services at military installations, Specialized Training of Military Parents, the National Military Family Support Association, Family Assistance Center, Exceptional Family Programs, military hospitals and other military associations to ensure that military families and their children with special needs and soldiers returning from combat have a comprehensive and integrated array of services and supports
